Privacy Policy
The Sync-in applications — including the desktop and command-line clients (Windows, macOS, Linux), as well as the Sync-in server — do not send any personal data to any service without your explicit permission.
All files, metadata, and user activity remain stored on your local device or Sync-in server. You retain full control of your data and can delete it at any time.
⚙️ Features and Connectivity
Some features of the Sync-in platform may require internet access or connections to external resources. Most of these features are optional and can be disabled.
Feature | Description | Default | Can be disabled |
---|---|---|---|
Auto-update | The desktop application checks for updates by connecting to https://releases.sync-in.org or https://updates.sync-in.org . | Enabled | Yes |
Internet connectivity check | The desktop client checks if an internet connection is available, to manage auto-update and synchronization behavior. | Enabled | No |
Full-text indexing | Performed only on the server side. Indexed content remains private and access is controlled by each instance’s permissions (spaces, shares, etc.). | Enabled | No (for now) |
Access to local data | Clients only access folders explicitly chosen by the user for synchronization. No other data is accessed, scanned, or transmitted. | User-defined | Not applicable |
No usage data or analytics are collected by Sync-in clients.
🗄️ Server and Instance Privacy
The Sync-in server is self-hosted, meaning:
- No telemetry or usage data is sent to Sync-in unless explicitly configured.
- Administrators of each instance define the data policies, access rules, and integration behavior.
- Full control remains in the hands of the instance owner.
🧩 Third-Party Services
Sync-in may optionally integrate with external services such as:
- OnlyOffice (for collaborative document editing)
- LDAP (for authentication)
- SMTP (for email notifications)
Each of these integrations is disabled by default and must be explicitly configured by the server administrator. In such cases, the third-party’s own privacy policies apply.
